Playing Catch Up

I love his little profile!

Grandma bought him this tiger costume for halloween
I realized Gavin and I have only taken 1 picture together since we've been home from the hospital, so we made daddy take a few, hence the same pics over and over.

Look at him look at auntie Loni...so sweet.
Auntie Loni!

Just admitted to the hospital
got on my gown, feelin large

James had a little present waiting for me on my pillow after I changed into my gown
Its a ruby and diamond necklace! Gavins birthstone is ruby. Yay for push presents!
My delicious McDonalds before I barfed it all up
This is when the awfulness began...contractions. Not so fun anymore.
Delivering Gavin. I needed oxygen in between pushes. INTENSE!

Ok, ok. So I know I've dropped the ball on blog updating, but having a baby is lots of work! So here is a massive, exhausting and much needed update on the love of my life. Gavin is almost one month old! I cant believe how fast this month has gone by. I swear I just delivered him a week ago. Gavin had his 2 wk doctors appt a couple weeks ago and I am happy to say he gained a full 8oz in one week! So a week and a half ago (at his appt) he weighed in at 7lbs 8oz. I am so proud of him, he's such a great eater. I feel so fortunate that he's a natural at nursing because I know its not as easy as it seems for a lot of people.

Gavin is starting to "take shape" as I call it. I swear, everyday he looks more and more like his Grandpa Bruce, which is kinda funny because we named him after grandpa at the last minute (literally, we had to get a new birth certificate cause James changed his mind as soon as he wrote Gavin James), so I take that as a sign it was meant to be! Another exciting note, Gavin made his first coos the other day and I just melted. He has the sweetest voice I've ever heard, especially when its cute little coos and not gassy grunts and screams. Oh man I love him.

Auntie Loni came down to visit us a couple weeks ago and she was such a big help! She was great with Gavin and held him every moment she could. It was really nice to have her here, especially when I came home from a long day doing a makeup job to a clean house! Thanks Auntie Loni for helping me out so much, it was such a nice surprise, and I cant wait for you to come down again. Also, congratulations on your engagement! You're gonna be the most beautiful bride in the whole wide world and I am honored to be your Matron of Honor! Lets get to plannin!

Lastly, I decided to put up the pictures from Gavins birth. I'll make his birth story brief cause I've told it so many times, I don't think I have it in me to tell it again, but I'll try. On Wednesday July 22, I was admitted to UCLA at 3:00 in the afternoon to be induced. My doctors plan was to start me on cervadel (not sure of the spelling) to thin out my cervix before we were actually to induce 12 hours later. James asked our nurse if the cervadel would start labor and she said its very unlikely, that generally only happens to second time moms, and even then it was rare. James asked, hypothetically, if it did put me into labor, whens the soonest it would happen, and she said in 2 hrs would be the earliest, but very unlikely. Well, wouldn't you know it, 2 hours later and here comes the contractions! From then on they just got worse and worse. I sent James home to take care of our animals for the night, not realizing that the real show was about to start. Literally, as soon as he left, my contractions became wicked. My poor mom watched on as I cried and screamed for a good three hours, unable to help her daughter. Finally at about 11 at night the nurse checked me and said she would bring in the epidural. I have never been in more pain in my life. By the time the anesthesiologist arrived, I was in so much pain and had been crying so hard that my upper lip was swollen and I was throwing up my McDonalds. He was so sweet, but I couldn't understand a single word he said his accent was so thick. Well, the epidural was just not working, so they kept upping it until I couldn't even move my legs at all they were so numb. I tried to sleep, but at about 3 in the morning my nurse came in and informed me that she was going to give me a shot to slow down my contractions. She said, and I quote, I don't know how this is humanly possible, but you are just one long contraction and little Gavin is doing Cirque De Soleil in there. The worst part was I knew it, cause I could feel it! Even with my epidural on high I was in terrible pain. My contractions were out of control! So she gave me the shot and my contractions stopped altogether after a couple hours. Sweet relief! But that was not to last. At around 9 in the morning the next day my doc came in, broke my water (I was only dilated to a 3), started the pitosin, and got me more epidural cause my contractions started up right away and strong. Then my anesthesiologist came back to give me a little something extra because they were still unbearable a half an hour later! Finally I passed out and when I woke up 2 hrs later, my nurse checked me and got really excited. She said I had dilated to a 9! In 2 hrs I went from a 3 to a 9. James couldn't believe it and thought she was joking. 45 min later she came back and I was ready to push and the rest is history. I would like to pat myself on the back for a minute here. Both my doc and nurse were amazed at how well I did and said my delivery was better than text book. You're welcome.

So, there you have it. An amazingly long update. I will post more often from now on, now that Im gettin the hang of havin my lil guy around.

Love of Our Lives

grandma and her special lil boy, shes so in love with him.
big boy in his cool onesie!
Here are just some sweet pics of our lil boy. He is the cutest baby I have ever seen...and I don't think its just cause I'm his mom that I think that. I love the pic where Gavin and Daddy are watching t.v. together...like father like son (by the way, Gavin will not actually be watching t.v. until he's much older, like 7 or 8. Only Disney movies and Baby Einstein for our sweet boy).

Gavins first week of life has been an adventurous one. He had his first doctors appt on Thursday, and Grandma took many pictures to document it. He is doing really well and only lost 4 oz from his birth weight which is great. We have another appt this Thursday, so I am curious to find out if he gained it back...my boy loooovvveeesss to eat.

My Mom came into town for his birth and a week after that, and all I have to say is thank goodness! I don't know what I would have done with out her. She was absolutely amazing! She bought us a million dollars worth of groceries, bought Gavin tons of clothes, and made us enough food to last a year. She was so helpful and I could never tell her how much I appreciate her. Thank you so much mom! You're the best Mom and now Grandma anyone could ever ask for.
